Can you put dirt and soil in a dumpster?

Usually yes

Short answer: Usually, if it's clean. Contaminated soil can't go in, and dirt is very heavy.

Why

Dumpsters.com says some areas allow dirt, but contaminated dirt can't go in a dumpster. Bagster lists dirt as location-specific and caps heavy material at 1 cubic yard.

What to do with it instead

Give clean fill away (neighbors, fill-dirt listings, landscapers). Contaminated soil needs special handling.

What changes by location

  • location-specific
  • weight limits
