Can you put paint thinner and solvents in a dumpster?

Covers: Stains, varnish, lacquer, paint thinner and solvents

No

Short answer: Never. These are flammable hazardous liquids.

Why

Dumpsters.com says paint thinners, lacquers and wood stains can't go in its dumpsters. Pennsylvania DEP treats stains and varnishes as hazardous. EPA warns that flammable leftovers are household hazardous waste and should never be poured down drains.

What to do with them instead

HHW drop-off or a PaintCare site (stains and varnish are accepted). Thinner can be settled and reused (PA DEP).
