Can you put small electronics in a dumpster?

Covers: Small electronics (phones, game consoles, chargers)

Usually not

Short answer: Mostly no. Anything with a battery, screen or circuit board goes to e-waste. Basic cords, wired mice and keyboards are often accepted.

Why

Dumpsters.com prohibits phones, stereos, DVD players, smart devices, rechargeable tools and vape pens. It says wired keyboards and mice, power cords and chargers, and small gadgets without batteries or screens are usually OK. Several states, including NY, VT and DC, ban many small devices from disposal (ERCC).

What to do with them instead

Retailer take-back, e-waste drop-off, or Call2Recycle for the batteries.
